Australian forces were more engaged in 1945 than in any other year of the Second World War.
Rejoicing broke out spontaneously when the surrender of Japan was announced - the War was over. Left to right, Betty Williams, Lois Anne Martin and possibly Carmel O'Connor, three work mates from the Kodak factory at Abbotsford typified the joy and relief felt by all Australians.
